Leadership Transition at OVE: Peter Reichel Retires, Daniel Herbst Appointed OVE Secretary General and new OVE-Representative for EUREL

EUREL extends its sincere thanks to Peter Reichel, who is retiring after nearly 22 years as Secretary General of the Austrian Electrotechnical Association (OVE) and is therefore stepping down from his role as OVE-Representative of 20 years in the EUREL Executive Committee and welcomes Daniel Herbst to the Executive Committee and as new OVE-Representative.

Throughout the two decades of dedicated service, Peter Reichel played a key role in shaping OVE and strengthening its engagement within the European engineering community. He was a valued contributor to EUREL’s activities and development, bringing extensive experience, and a strong commitment to international cooperation. 

Peter’s contribution to EUREL has been widely appreciated. During the reorganisation and further development of EUREL in recent years, he was a trusted partner whose expertise and constructive approach helped shape many important initiatives. His support for young engineers and his commitment to fostering international collaboration have left a lasting impact on the organisation. As highlighted by EUREL Chairman Board of Directors Markus B. Jaeger (VDE), Peter was not only a reliable partner and advisor, but also a strong advocate for the future of the engineering profession and for the next generation of engineers.

EUREL warmly thanks Peter Reichel for his long-standing commitment and wishes him all the very best, good health, and happiness in this new chapter of life.

At the same time, OVE has appointed Daniel Herbst as its new Secretary General. Daniel will also represent OVE in the EUREL Executive Committee.

Daniel Herbst is an Electrical Engineer with extensive experience in research, standardisation, education, and industry collaboration. Having been involved with OVE for many years - from his early engagement with the OVE Young Engineers to his work in technical committees, research projects, and continuing professional development, he brings both deep technical expertise and a strong professional network to his new role.

His priorities include supporting young engineers, expanding member services and educational opportunities, strengthening national and international cooperation, and addressing key future challenges such as digitalisation, the energy transition, and E-mobility.

EUREL looks forward to continuing its close cooperation with OVE and warmly welcomes Daniel Herbst to the Executive Committee and the EUREL family.
